Saona Island is a very sparsely populated island located 12 miles off the coast of the Dominican Republic. It is in the ranking of the 5 most popular excursions in this Caribbean destination and it is not surprising, due to its unique beauty, endless beaches bordered by turquoise blue water and palm trees.
It is usually reached by catamaran and speedboat, from Bayahibe or from Casa de Campo. Before reaching Isla Saona, a stop is made in the natural pool, where the water arrives in some areas at the knees. Some excursions are also complemented by a visit to Altos de Chavón and the Chavón River in Casa de Campo; Mano Juan, a fishing village in Saona.
The island is located within the East National Park, a protected park. Every day it is visited by some 3,000 tourists and stays beautiful and clean year after year. This is also due to the almost nonexistent construction on the island and the care of it.
